California’s Franchise Tax Board has made it easier to pay your individual and business state-related taxes online.
For Individuals
You’ll need the following information when making your online FTB tax payment:
- Social security number, address, phone number. If you file married jointly, you’ll need your spouse’s information.
- Web Pay Payment Type (estimated tax, extension payment, tax return payment).
- Bank information (routing number, account number, account type). If you want to pay with a debit/credit card, there is an associated fee and the process will take you to a third-party processor (Trusted Service Site).
Note: in this process, you can register a MyFTB account so you don’t have to fill in your details each time you make online tax payments.
Individual MyFTB Payment Process
- At the FTB site, select payment type.
- Enter the year.
- Enter your personal information (and spouse’s, if applicable).
- You will then be prompted for the amount and your banking info.
- Review & authorize payment.
Estimated Tax Payment
- Follow the steps above.
- In the payment window, you can schedule up to four estimated tax payments by clicking on “Add an estimated tax payment.”
For Businesses
You’ll need the following information when making your online tax payment:
- Your California business entity ID (CA corporate number or LLC number), official business name, address, phone number. You can find your CA corporation number. on your California tax return and it’s the first number on your tax voucher.
- Web Pay Payment Type (estimated tax, extension payment, tax return payment).
- Bank information (routing number, account number, account type).
Business Payment Process
- At the FTB site, select payment type.
- Enter the year.
- Enter your business information.
- You will then be prompted for the amount and your banking info.
- In the payment, window click on “Add an Estimated Tax Payment.” You can schedule up to four payments.
- Review & authorize payment
Final Steps
- Save a copy of the confirmation page or email for your records.
- Upload a copy of the confirmation page to SmartVault
